Welcome to Brae Cottage

"We've been to Islay many times and always loved our stay,
but this has been exceptional in the cottage known as Brae,
The views are truly wonderful and the accommodation great,
We couldn't say that anything was less than quite first rate,
We wish we didn't have to leave, we'd really rather stay,
Now we'll look towards the future and returning here some day."

Brae Cottage

One of the most popular views on Islay must be that of the Paps of Jura.  The atmosphere of the Paps changes with the weather, from looking proud and majestic in the brilliant sunshine to moody and mysterious in the dullest of weather.  In the distance the hills of Mull can also be seen.

Where better to see this unusual and fantastic picture show than from Dunlossit's own idyllic  holiday home, Brae Cottage?

Brae Cottage is a three bedroomed bungalow cottage which has being furnished this year to a high standard to provide a comfortable holiday cottage for the 2009 season.

Brae Cottage can comfortably sleep from four to five people and has ample private off road parking.  It is ideal for families as there are secure, enclosed gardens surrounding the cottage.

From the lounge windows the breathtaking views surround you at every opportunity.  These views are repeated from the kitchen, the master bedroom and the double bedroom, with a smaller bedroom enjoying views of the Sound to the south.

The house is heated by oil and the lounge has wood-burning stove for those colder nights when all you want to do is sit next to the flickering flames and listen to the peace that surrounds Port Askaig at night.

To the rear of the house there is a level access shower-room with an electric shower, and there is also a second toilet and a utility room.

The kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker, fridge, dishwasher and microwave oven.  The utility room holds the washer/dryer machine.   As Dunlossit is  a supporter of MEAT ISLAY!  there is a hospitality freezer which operates on a honesty box basis, filled with Dunlossit Meat for you to enjoy.  There is a TV and DVD player in the lounge, telephone+, and WI FI.   All linen including towels is provided and prices include electricity and oil.  Highchairs, travel cots, etc, are available on request.

Outside there is a barbecue area for those warm summer nights; a picnic table and benches, and a rotary clothes line.  Why not try a Dunlossit Barbecue Box.  Order one when you make your booking and we will have your box ready for when you arrive or take one home with you.

It is so peaceful and restful that it is hard to believe that it is situated near the main road, which  makes it ideal for those who wish to use public transport to travel around the island.

Make your arrival even easier by ordering a grocery box from the Ballygrant Village Store.  Phone Anne-Marie Stitchell* on 01496 840656 and she will ensure that your box is delivered on your arrival.  For a really special treat, arrange for chef Francois Bernier* (www.fcinsl-catering.co.uk) to cook a fantastic meal for you in the comfort of Brae Cottage.  For the true experience of Islay meats then contact Campbell Butchers*, in Port Ellen.  Campbell Butchers will deliver directly to you at Brae Cottage.  Be sure to ask about their barbecue box and really enjoy the summer nights.

Want a night of from the kids, then give us a call and we will try to arrange a baby-sitting service for you (subject to availability).

The ferry terminal of Port Askaig is literally two minutes walk away and the ferries can be clearly seen carrying passengers to and from the island - from both Jura and the mainland.  This is perfect for people wanting to spend the day in Jura - and Colonsay when the summer ferry timetable permits.
