Pleased to meet you, meat to please you!

Neil Campbell re-opened the butchers shop at 56 Frederick Crescent, Port Ellen in February 2006.  Since then he, with the help of fellow butcher Neil MacAffer, has provided the best quality meat to the residents of Islay and Jura.

Keen to re-introduce the people of Islay and Jura to the local meat issue, Neil teamed up with Dunlossit Estate and Avonvogie Abattoir and began selling meat that was born, raised and slaughtered on Islay and thus became one of the first members of the MEAT ISLAY! concept.

On 1st October 2009, Campbell Butchers joined forces with Dunlossit Estate and became an integral part of the new Meat Enterprise department.  The service that the two Neils supplied has not changed in any way (except it's the ladies in the office who deal with the paperwork now).

Both Neil Campbell and Neil MacAffer bring years of experience to the business which means you are assured of the best service possible - service which was recognised in 2007 by being nominated for the 'UK FOOD TV' Local Food Heroes award."  Of course, the accolades don't stop there as at the BBC Good Food Show 2008, Campbell Butchers won the Champion and Reserve Champion in the BPAs' annual pork sausage competition.

Campbell Butchers are ideally positioned being the first stop for fresh meat on coming off the Kennacraig to Islay ferry and the last stop before you go on the Islay to Kennacraig ferry.  This in effect means that anyone holidaying on the island can enjoy sizzling steaks, succulent stews and perfect pork from the beginning of their holiday to the end.  And....if that wasn't enough of a mouthwatering delight for you, you can even take some meat home with you when you leave.  Give us a call when you book your holiday and we can even arrange for your order to be at your self-catering accommodation when you arrive.

As a side-line, Dunlossit have now opened the Dunlossit Market Hall at the Estate Office, Knocklearach, Ballygrant which is open on Fridays only. The Market Hall sells the delicious meat supplied from Campbell Butchers and also home-made baking, bread, homegrown fruit and veg, and Islay honey from local producers keen to provide the public with local foods.
